As an 18-year-old, Jannick Wagschal never thought he would end up as a permanent member of the Envases sales team. He chose the vacation job “at Huber” (until 2021 Envases Öhringen operated under the name Huber Packaging) primarily “because they pay well”. He already felt comfortable there at that time and subsequently heard only positive things (“In my environment, it feels like everyone knows someone who works there.”). That’s why the company came back into his focus after graduating from high school. “I wanted to stay in the area and found the two-and-a-half-year apprenticeship as an industrial clerk with additional qualification extremely interesting.”
Training in international Business Management
The former Huber Packaging company provided the opportunity – and Jannick Wagschal soon had a training contract in his pocket. In addition to the normal training content, the “additional qualification” in question included further lessons in international business management, which were taught bilingually. In addition, a second foreign language is mandatory.
“This suits me like a glove,” says Wagschal. He likes to think outside the box and learn new things. That’s why he had actually planned to take a year off after graduating from business high school in the summer of 2019. He first wanted to work for a few months and then use the money to travel. “Unfortunately, traveling didn’t work out, because then Corona came along,” he recalls regretfully. He appreciated all the more that his training was internationally oriented. Even stays in France and Denmark were possible during that time.
Stopover at the Envases purchasing department in Denmark
The fact that his training company Huber Packaging has been taken over by the international packaging group Envases in 2021 is a benefit for Wagschal: “This means we are even more international, which I find totally exciting.” When the opportunity arose during his training to get to know the Danish Envases site personally for a few weeks, he was happy to take it. He was welcomed there with open arms and was very pleased with the enthusiasm with which his Danish colleagues from the Öhringen site spoke. As one of the first to take part, he was therefore happy to work on further developing the Envases exchange program for future apprentices – a true matter of the heart, he assures.
Working together, finding solutions and learning from each other – that is extremely important to the 23-year-old. Not only on an international level, but of course also in his daily work. During his apprenticeship in Öhringen, he worked in a wide variety of departments. He also got to know the Sales Team Beverage – and applied directly for a job there at the end of his training. Since the end of last year, he has been supporting the Envases sales team around the minikeg as a permanent team member and is looking forward to the exciting tasks in this area.
Learning from the “old hands”
In internal sales with export, Wagschal mainly takes care of organizing container shipments to Brazil and Asia. He also finds supporting his colleague Peter Reiter in looking after the major Dutch customer Heineken “a very interesting subject”. He has felt very much at home in the sales team right from the start, and in Peter Reiter in particular he has found an important mentor whom he greatly appreciates: “You can learn so much from a colleague like him with over 40 years of experience – that really is incredibly valuable.”
Digging deeper, constantly acquiring new knowledge, benefiting from the experience of colleagues, and always remaining curious – with this attitude, Wagschal is well on his way to quickly establishing himself as a new member of the Beverage Team in Envases Sales. “I’m really looking forward to taking on responsibility myself and looking after my own customers in the future.”
The enthusiastic amateur soccer and basketball player is not intimidated by future challenges. As an athlete, he knows how to deal with them: “Stick with it, bite through it, don’t give up!” Just as in his demanding day-to-day work at Envases, this attitude also helps him in his private life. After all, the next challenge is already waiting for Jannick Wagschal: The 23-year-old is currently out searching for his first apartment of his own.
